Following in the footsteps of many of the Swiss “Old Guard” watchmakers, Breitling has launched (literally) the Exospace B55 Connected Smartwatch.

They take a unique approach to the smart watch trend by pairing the Bluetooth connected timepiece with it’s own smartphone app.

Compared to other offerings, Breitling decided to pare down the options on the Exospace B55. Headed up by Breitling VP Jean-Paul Giradin. In his own words “The problem was not which functions we should add, but it was which functions we will keep. We had to restrict it to useful functions that were really Breitling.”

When you think Breitling, you think of an aviation-style chrono watch and that is exactly what Giradin and his team widdled the “smart” features down to. No apps. No gimmicks. Just pure Breitling practicality.

The rugged case design and charging port

With functions like flight logging and lap timing, combined with the rugged case design and sports style band, the Exospace B55 fits the full spectrum of active lifestyles.

The paired smartphone app acts as a sort of remote, allowing the wearer to control all of the watches functions. Set the time, change time zones and set alarms all from your iPhone. It also lets you know of incoming messages, calls and e-mails at a glance of the wrist.

With a hulking 46mm case, the B55 holds a charge for up to two months and features a Breitling SuperQuartz movement that is chrono-certified.

Actual retail price: $8,900 USD. Not the cheapest of the Swiss offerings (like the Tag Heuer Connected), but it’s a steal if it fits your lifestyle. You can purchase the Exospace B55 online at Breitling Boutiques worldwide.
