I’ve been waiting for this show to come back all year. Now even more so that the ‘Hackers’ original Matthew Lillard has joined the cast.

You’re probably familiar with AMC’s repertoire of shows, including ‘The Walking Dead’, ‘Better Call Saul’ and most recently ‘Preacher’, but hiding down there below the fold is Christopher Cantwell’s gem of an 80’s period piece, Halt and Catch Fire. AMC announced this week that Hackers star Matthew Lillard (of ‘Scream’ and ‘Scooby Doo’ fame, too) has joined the cast. Lillard is an amazing character actor. I loved him in Scream but he also stands out as a recurring character on The Good Wife and as a giant sociopath in the 90’s indie movie The Curve.

Halt and Catch Fire already has an amazing ensemble cast. Lee Pace, Kerry Bishe, Scoot McNairy and Mackenzie Davis all work off each other to great effect. Set in 1980’s Texas, Halt and Catch Fire tracks the personal computer revolution from the Silicon Prairie. Loaded with dark, Machiavellian undertones, this show would make Ayn Rand wet.

‘Halt and Catch Fire’ returns to AMC on August 23rd with a two-hour premiere episode.
